Sonya Badiuk (Sep 14, 1938 – March 29, 2025)

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Sonya Badiuk on March 29, 2025, at St. Boniface Hospital at the age of 86.

Sonya is predeceased by her parents Steve and Pearl Podolsky, sister Mary(Bill) Matichuk and brother Jarvis. She is survived by her husband John Badiuk of 57 years, sister-in-law Liz, nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous friends.

Sonya was born and raised in Vita, MB. September 14, 1938, where she became a schoolteacher and taught for over 30 years. Some of the schools she taught at were Purple Bank School in Gardenton, MB., Kenora, Ontario, Prendergast School and Marion School in Winnipeg.

The outdoors was her favorite thing during summers off of school. Cutting the grass with her riding mower and looking after her flower garden on the 5 acres property in which she shared with John were her pride and joy. She spent the rest of her time cross stitching, doing crossword puzzles and dancing the night away with the love of her life.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, April 4, 2025, at 11:00am at St. Mary the Protectress Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral, 820 Burrows Ave. Winnipeg, MB. with reception to follow and burial at Glen Lawn Cemetery, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. Winnipeg, MB.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada or a charity of your choice.
