1950-2023
With great sorrow, we announce the passing of our father, father-in-law, and Gigi, on April 20, 2023, at the Grace Hospital, in his 73rd year, the Angels lifted the soul of Michael to Eternal Rest in Gods heavenly kingdom. Michael was born in Vita, Manitoba on July 21, 1950. He graduated from the Vita Manitoba School District and studied at Saint Andrew’s College and the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg (1973 to 1977), earning Baccalaureate Degrees in Theology (1973), Humanities (1977), and a Baccalaureate Degree in Education from the University of Brandon (1978). Michael was ordained to the Deocante on December 17, 1972 and to the Priesthood on May 20, 1973. Dad served, lovingly and with dedication, alongside his wife the late Dobrodijka Olga, the work in Christ’s Vineyard in UOCC Parishes of Oakburn-Brandon District, Hamilton, Windsor, Winnipeg, Yorkton, Flin-Flon, The Pas, Brandon, and Portage La Prairie. Michael was predeceased by his parents, George and Marie (nee Sokoliuk), William Lobur, Anne Lobur (nee Andrusyk) and his wife Dobrodijka Olga. Dad is lovingly remembering by his daughters, Larissa (Jason Sawby) and Tannis. Grandchildren, Michael Finnerty, Hailey Skrumeda and Jaydon Skrumeda Sawby, his siblings, god children, nieces, nephews, and many other extended family members. His earthly journey is now complete, and we pray his soul abide in blessedness, where there is neither pain nor suffering, in a place much more beautiful than can be thought of by the heart of man. Panakhyda will be celebrated on Thursday, April 27, 7:00 p.m. and Funeral Service shall be celebrated on Friday, April 28, 10:00 a.m. both from St. Mary the Protectress Cathedral, 820 Burrows Avenue, Winnipeg, MB. Interment will take place at the Senkiw Ukrainian Orthodox Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. Presiding will be Very Rev. Fr. A. Harkavyi assisted by the Hierarchs and Clergy of the UOCC. Pallbearers guiding him to his final place of rest will be Clergy of the UOCC, and graced by honorary pallbearers, Michael Finnerty, Hailey Skrumeda, Jaydon Skrumeda Sawby, Elise Diplock, and Justine Diplock. The family extends its heartfelt gratitude and reverent prayers for blessings of the Lord to Nadya Hudyma, Kevin and Sophia Diplock who were there in friendship and in time of need. Donations may be made to St. Mary Ukrainian Orthodox Cemetery Senkiw and/or St. Mary the Protectress Cathedral.
